Another Feature for CASF, “New Visitors.”

Robert W. Endlich

Suggestions from some CASF members to introduce visitors to the non-problem of catastrophic, human-caused, CO2-fueled “Global Warming” ( since the warming of the 1980s and 1990s stopped about 1998, the name needed to be changed to “Climate Change” ) have led us to a new feature, “New Visitors” short for, “New Visitors Start Here.”

The idea is to provide a short introductory paragraph (or two) and a series of links to take new visitors on a tour of many of the false claims of imminent climate catastrophe through links to short topics which demonstrate this folly. Our use of fossil fuels is causing an increase in atmospheric Carbon Dioxide, CO2 for short, but an elementary knowledge of high school chemistry, biology, general science and mathematics shows that the climate alarm is a false alarm.  Already the slight warming and increased CO2 has led to a greener planet and increasing crop productivity.

Atmospheric CO2 is the sole source of the plant carbohydrates we consume to sustain ourselves, so those calling CO2 a “pollutant” demonstrate ignorance of what keeps them, and indeed all animal life on this Earth, alive.

Henry’s Law

Henry’s Law teaches that when the temperature of an aqueous solution increases, the dissolved gas in the water is driven out of the water and into the air until balance of partial pressures is reached, and conversely.

This is the process which causes bubbles to form on the inside of the pot of water on the stove when the flame or burner starts to heat the water.  The bubbles are dissolved air… what’s in air? 78% nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, 1% Argon, and now 412 PPM CO2.

This “outgassing” alone accounts for the rapid rise in atmospheric CO2 when Earth emerges from an Ice Age, as was shown in Al Gore’s science fiction flick, “An Inconvenient Truth.” Increasing water TEMPERATURE controls atmospheric CO2, not the reverse, which is what ignorant alarmists erroneously claim.

Climate Short No 5, “Henry’s Law From 175 Years Ago,” describes this in more detail, and contains the graph showing how increasing water temperature decreases the amount of CO2 dissolved in water, repeated below.

Figure 1. Henry’s Law applied to CO2 and water: As the temperature of the water increases, water’s ability to hold CO2 in solution decreases: => CO2 goes into the atmosphere.  Source: http://chemistry.stackexchange.com/questions/47519/non-linear-solubility-trend

Another graphic shows how, a year after an El Nino event, atmospheric CO2 increases dramatically from El Nino-warmed Pacific waters.

Figure 2. The data are “detrended” plots of atmospheric, green, water temperature, blue, land temperature, red, displayed with respect to the long-term average, the thin white line.  The 1998 El Nino, which resulted in the several months of snow on the Organ Mountains just east of Las Cruces NM, caused the prominent spike in atmospheric CO2 a year later. The ensuing La Nina with colder Pacific Temperatures followed in 2000, resulting in a steep “valley” of CO2 in 2001. This figure shows TEMPERATURE is driving CO2, not the opposite.  Source: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/257343053_The_phase_relation_between_atmospheric_carbon_dioxide_and_global_temperature
New Visitors

The New Visitor links take you to a series of short topics that show the claims by politicians, the Mainstream Media, the United Nations (and its Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change), and, distressingly, Universities and Government Agencies…are wrong.

Some of the money spent on climate research and technology has freed us from the drudgery of paging through journals in university libraries or those microfiche readers from mid-20th century technology.

Now, with curiosity, a computer, an internet connection, and the ability to enter search terms into a browser, measurements, data, observations, analyses, and reports are available to an interested user.

The scientific societies have their hands out for a cut of the action and now many journal articles are behind a paywall, but going down the search results list often finds the information hidden away, sometimes in skeptical web sites and sometimes in university library web sites, and the curious avoid having to shell out for needed information.

“New Visitors” will be under construction for awhile until we get the contents completed. This feature has the potential to expand as we add new elements and links. Most of the graphics here contain hyperlinks that show the data source.

This comment to conclude:

“Showing you the data rather than lecturing you with model-output malarkey: What a concept!”

WELCOME!
