The 2019 Heat Wave in Europe and Beyond—What the Media Didn’t Tell You

The summer of 2019 was hot in Europe, but the claims of new extreme record maximum temperatures, of sled dogs in Greenland mushing through never-heard-of-before water on the ice sheet, and of direct links to human-caused CO2-fueled use of inexpensive energy are wrong, incorrect, and without due diligence by the writers of such drivel.  Herein is a view you didn’t see in the Main-Stream Media.

The CNN Photo

This post starts with a CNN story with this breathless paragraph,

“The incredible photo he took, of sled dogs ankle deep in a wide expanse of Continue reading “The 2019 Heat Wave in Europe and Beyond—What the Media Didn’t Tell You”

Incredibly Poor Climate Forecasts made for Las Cruces and New Mexico

By Robert W. Endlich

Las Cruces is home to New Mexico’s Land Grant school, New Mexico State University, ostensibly home of The Educated, but some of the climate pronouncements by climate alarmists here have proven to be terribly wrong.

Las Cruces, situated in southern New Mexico, is only an hour’s drive from El Paso, Texas, and is located both in the Mountain West and in the Chihuahuan Desert.  As such, it lies in the area where cold season precipitation patterns are governed by the related weather events El Nino Southern Oscillation and its 60-year-long big cousin, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation.

These readily known facts seemingly mean little to the alarmists who Continue reading “Incredibly Poor Climate Forecasts made for Las Cruces and New Mexico”

About those stories of, “Declining Arctic Sea Ice Extent”

By Robert Endlich

There are numerous stories in the media about “Declining Arctic Sea Ice Extent.” This post is the story of what I found when I started looking into the specifics cited in some of those stories.

Did NCA4 Pick Some Cherries? Photo by Pixabay

With a background in geology and as an operational meteorologist with 30 years in research and development, at the outset I became suspicious when periods of record cited as ‘lines of evidence’ were well short of the characteristic 60-year time period of naturally occurring weather events which influence my locale, New Mexico. The 60-year weather cycles which dominate North America are the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation for temperatures, and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation for rainfall, especially in the Mountain West of the USA, more of which is described here.

Some of the loudest and shrillest cries of, “Declining Arctic Sea Ice Extent,” come from our own Government in the Fourth National Climate Assessment, NCA4. Some of the most disturbing cries come from the Continue reading “About those stories of, “Declining Arctic Sea Ice Extent””

Another Feature for CASF, “New Visitors.”

Robert W. Endlich

Suggestions from some CASF members to introduce visitors to the non-problem of catastrophic, human-caused, CO2-fueled “Global Warming” ( since the warming of the 1980s and 1990s stopped about 1998, the name needed to be changed to “Climate Change” ) have led us to a new feature, “New Visitors” short for, “New Visitors Start Here.”

The idea is to provide a short introductory paragraph (or two) and a series of links to take new visitors on a tour of many of the false claims of imminent climate catastrophe through links to short topics which demonstrate this folly. Our use of fossil fuels is causing an increase in atmospheric Carbon Dioxide, CO2 for short, but an elementary knowledge of high school chemistry, biology, general science and mathematics shows that the Continue reading “Another Feature for CASF, “New Visitors.””

A case of nigh-criminal hypocrisy

Disputing Sixty Minutes’ deceptive feature on Kids’ Climate Change Lawsuit.

[Note:  This article is also available at Master Resource.  Ed.]

Robert W. Endlich

On 3 March 2019 the popular CBS Sixty Minutes newsmagazine featured a story on the Climate Kids’ lawsuit Juliana vs. the United States. It included a feature-length segment by CBS Correspondent Steve Croft, and smaller segments in the “Sixty Minutes Overtime” also directly available at the same link.

I invite you to read this analysis – and then watch the “news” and think critically about it.

Unlike the segments themselves, my descriptions of them are arguments based on data, not emotion.

It starts in the 1990s with the young woman at the center of this lawsuit, whose name is also the title of the lawsuit, Juliana. Her full name is Kelsey Cascadia Rose Juliana; she was 5 weeks old when her parents were involved in the Pacific Northwest “timber wars” over the “endangered” Northern Spotted Owl. Along with 20 other kids or “young adults,” Juliana is now following in her parents’ footsteps, blazing her own litigation trails.

As Figure 1 summarizes, the Northern Spotted Owl decision resulted in a Continue reading “A case of nigh-criminal hypocrisy”
