[added comments] While carbon dioxide is a “greenhouse” gas and it does absorb energy in some infrared wavelength bands, many scientists will argue that its affect on average global temperatures have been considerably exaggerated by the proponents of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming. In order to derive effects extreme enough to be considered catastrophic, they have had to rely on strong positive feedback resulting in much larger effects than CO2 could produce without any feedbacks. Many prestigious scientists disagree with that and some even suspect the feedback is not only much less than estimated, but may even be negative.
One must always consider that contrary to that which is frequently stated by climate activists/alarmists, the debate is never over in science.
Five Impossible-to-believe topics fed to us by the alarmists: A 2019 report: Climate is in Crisis, 100% renewable electricity is possible, Hurricane Dorian was made stronger by our use of fossil fuels, Hurricane Michael was Category 5 at landfall, and human-caused CO2-fueled global warming is a coming catastrophe. This post summarizes my November 2019 presentation to the Cruces Atmospheric Sciences Forum, CASF.
THE CLIMATE CRISIS TOWN HALL
On 4 Sep 2019 CNN presented a televised town hall meeting where 2020 Democrat presidential candidates discussed a purported human-caused, CO2-fueled climate crisis; Inside Climate News reported on the event. I focus on three elements of that report, encapsulated in these quotes:
“There was none of the debate over science that has dominated U.S. political discussions and strangled action in recent years.”
The summer of 2019 was hot in Europe, but the claims of new extreme record maximum temperatures, of sled dogs in Greenland mushing through never-heard-of-before water on the ice sheet, and of direct links to human-caused CO2-fueled use of inexpensive energy are wrong, incorrect, and without due diligence by the writers of such drivel. Herein is a view you didn’t see in the Main-Stream Media.
___________ “Global warming is not a purely scientific issue any more,” he said. “It has repercussions for society. It has also taken on a moralistic, almost religious quality. If you believe what everyone believes, you are a good person. If you don’t, you are a bad person. Who wants to be a sinner?” ___________
[This interview article about ‘skeptic’ climate scientist Nir Shaviv was published and then quickly pulled from Forbes.com. We discovered the article after it was reprinted by Jim Lakely, Communications Director of the Heartland Institute. We are reprinting it here under the fair use doctrine. Ed.]
The U.S. auto industry and regulators in California and Washington appear
deadlocked over stiff Obama-era fuel-efficiency standards that automakers oppose and the Trump administration have vowed to roll back – an initiative that has environmental activists up in arms.
Las Cruces is home to New Mexico’s Land Grant school, New Mexico State University, ostensibly home of The Educated, but some of the climate pronouncements by climate alarmists here have proven to be terribly wrong.
Las Cruces, situated in southern New Mexico, is only an hour’s drive from El Paso, Texas, and is located both in the Mountain West and in the Chihuahuan Desert. As such, it lies in the area where cold season precipitation patterns are governed by the related weather events El Nino Southern Oscillation and its 60-year-long big cousin, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation.
It’s been long known that NASA1 GISS2 has been going through its historical temperature data archives and erasing old temperature measurements and replacing them with new, made up figures without any real legitimate reason.
This practice has led to the formation of new datasets called “adjusted” data, with the old datasets being called “V3 unadjusted”. The problem for global warming activists, however, was that when anyone looks at the old “V3 unadjusted” – i.e. untampered data – they often found a downward linear temperature trend. Such negative trends of course are an embarrassment for global warming alarmists, who have been claiming the planet is warming up rapidly.
